Why should government spend money on IITs?

Recently I read an article by Jeswanth Padooru ( http://scroll.in/article/715918/dear-smriti-irani-stop-giving-my-money-to-iitians ) which talks about tax payers money being wasted on education of engineers in IITs where these engineers don't contribute to India after being educated on tax payers money. Author wants government to stop spending money on IITs and ask students to take educational loans and pay the fee. The argument has started with IITs and once author force government to discontinue grants to IITs he will question grants given to smaller collages also because these people can also take loan and income tax for author can be reduced. Once government stops giving grants to collages author will ask government to stop grants to government schools and ask them to get higher fee from students because they will be earning money because of the education they are getting in school.

I have studied right from class first to my B.E. on government subsidy. I did my B.E. in Electronics and Communications from Netaji Shubas Institute of Technology, Delhi. I joined college in 1995 and fee was highly subsidized and whole admission fee was about 6000 rupee and my father could not afford that and he had to borrow money from someone to pay my admission fee. The semester fee was 1600 rupee for semester starting in June and 600 for semester starting in January. I passed out in 1999 and I have been working in India since then. It is 15 years now and I have paid more than 30 Lakhs as income tax to government. So government gets paid back for the subsidized education to students in India.

I did not make it to IIT in my first attempt and decided not to go for second attempt because IIT was charging 20,000 per year as fee and my father could not afford that. Even if I would have qualified for IIT in my first attempt I would have to drop out because my father could not afford it.

Now I come to point of Educational Loans. Author of the article says that it takes 3.4 Lakh per year to educate a student and students are paying only 90,000 out of that and 2.5 Lakhs are borne by the government. Students should be asked to take an educational loan and pay whole 3.4 Lakh per year and repay the loan after getting a job. This amount does not include hostel expanses which will also come to 60,000 per year. So for a 4 year B. Tech. course student will have to take loan of 16 Lakh for his education. Educational loans are not approved as easily said. There is a lot of corruption and Red Tapism which people need to face while taking educational loan. You see one advertisement in newspaper from a bank that they are giving a loan up to 20 Lakh without collateral and assume that any student can walk into any branch of the bank with his exam result and walk out of the bank with a 20 Lakhs loan approved. The real situation is not that good. The amount of 90,000 rupee per year as fee is not a small amount that a poor student can pay without taking a loan. We assume that getting an education loan is as easy as opening a bank account. So I think 95% of people studying in IIT should be having a educational loan. But getting an educational loan is a tough task and that is why only 1% of people studying in IITs are having educational loan. Poor people have already stopped preparing of IIT because they can't afford the fee and getting an educational loan is next to impossible.

I would like to talk about my personal experience with educational loan and scholarships being offered to needy students. When I joined my collage there was a big advertisement in a leading English newspaper where a trust was offering scholarship and loan to needy students and I applied for it. They were offering assistance for paying collage fee and buying books. I requested for 1600 rupee for collage fee and 2000 rupee for buying books. Can you imagine how much money did they give me? I don't think that you will be able to guess it so I give you the answer. They sent a cheque of 90 rupee to my collage. I spent more than 90 rupee for paper work which I had to do for getting this big help.

The current fee of 90,000 rupee per year is already high and has already driven poor students out of the IITs. So I don't mind if fee is increased futher to 3.4 Lakh rupee because rich people can pay that much also. I would be happy to see the day when some study will show that more than 80% of students studying in IITs are having educational loan and saying that getting educational loan was easy.

Maximum rate of Interest allowed in India

Matter of taking money on loan and repaying with interest is a normal practice in India and also in rest of the world. But rate of interest plays very important role in deciding if deal is fair or not. If debtor refuses to pay the loan then we feel that court need to direct police to make debtor repay the loan but at the same time think that if debtor feel that he is being charged exorbitant interest then court should not interfere in deal of two persons entered by their own wish. Why should government interfere if debtor refuses to repay the loan and keep silent when creditor is exploiting the debtor?

Government need to protect both creditor and debtor. The government needs to make sure that debtors repay their loans and at the same time fix a maximum rate of interest which can be charged to debtor so that debtors are not exploited. In India various state governments have enacted laws to regulate maximum rate of interest but still very few people are aware of existence of such regulation and current maximum rate of interest allowed by law. Here I would like to discuss various laws governing loans and interests in India.

THE USURIOUS LOANS ACT, 1918 declared that no farmer - debtor was liable to pay by way of interest an amount exceeding principal of the loan.

It means that no person can be forced to pay interest more than principal over the full tenure of the loan.

Karnataka and Kerala states have enacted their own laws to govern maximum rate of interest allowed. Other states also have similar laws.  These acts says that maximum rate of interest will be notified by government from time to time but our people sitting in media are themselves involved in business of giving loans on exorbitant interest so they never report maximum rate of interest allowed as per law. As per latest information received by me maximum rate of interests allowed is 2% per month.

Origion of Female foeticide in India

Now a day media is portraying Indian society in wrong light by saying that in India and particularly rural India it their culture to kill new born female child. It is totally untrue. In fact no one ever kill their daughter in a history of last 2000 years. It is a false propaganda done against Indian society.

The problem of decline of female population started in 1975 when Sanjay Gandhi started population control program and abortion which mean killing the unborn baby was projected as a very acceptable way of population control and people going for abortion were rewarded cash prize for getting their child aborted. Any people who said that killing their unborn child was a sin was termed a backward and illiterate.

It was projected that unborn child was not alive in first 3 months of pregnancy and getting the child aborted in first three months months is not a sin and should be encouraged. When this thinking started setting into mind of general public the inhibition against killing unborn babies went away. When the invention of determining sex of unborn baby came in market people started using it. The inhibition of killing unborn babies was already removed by government's aggressive campaigning in favor of abortion. The people who did not want a girl child because they already had a girl child or otherwise, started using sex determination test and abortion for killing unborn girls.

The problem of decreasing female population was created by government's aggressive campaign in favor of abortion. The problem still does not exist in rural India which is out of reach of government’s campaigns. The problem exists in educated people who are influenced by government advertisements.

The solution to this problem lies in understanding the root cause of the problem. The root cause is that people don't feel anything bad in killing their unborn babies and this thinking was created by government's campaign. This campaign is still continuing. This is only aggravating the problem and not solving anything.

People's bias toward Mayavati v/s Akhilesh Yadav

For last one month I am seeing 8 LCD screens 4 on each pillar at UP Gate on NH-24. Each LCD must have costed 50,000 rupee so money spent on these LCD screen is at least 4 Lakhs. These LCD screens are being used to show UP's CM Akhilesh Yadav's photo. Mayavati on the other hand constructed her status at some places in UP.

In last one month I have not heard even a single person calling Akhilesh Yadav self-centered and criticizing waste of money by Akhilesh Yadav. I know people who used to take out at least half an hour daily to criticize Mayavati for her self-centered attitude and waste of money on statues (not only Mayavati's but B. R. Ambedkar also). These people are surprisingly silent about waste of money by Akhilesh Yadav. Does it have something to do with fact that Mayavati is a Dalit and Akhilesh Yadav is an Upper caste? I think that caste of Akhilesh Yadav and Mayavati and people's reaction are related. If it is so then why should I expect Dalit's not have bias towards Mayavati when upper caste people are having bias against Mayavati?

Mandir and Amir Khan's followers

Yesterday some people came to my house to give invitation of Maha Shivratri festival celebration in our society temple. I was very happy to see that Maha Shivrati is being celebrated in our society temple. I also contributed 500 rupee for the celebration expanses. Some Amir Khan's followers who have watched his movie PK says that I should not be going to temple and should not contribute for temple expanses. I don't care if Amir Khan's followers call me a villain for contributing for temple expenses. I feel that God have given me everything which I have in my life and I should be more than happy to offer something out of so many things received from God for service of God. I have very high respect for the people going door to door and inviting people for celebration and collecting funds for the celebration. I myself can't do that but at least contribute by making monitory contribution.

BJP's humiliating defeat in Delhi Elections

Yesterday Delhi Assembly Election's results were announced and BJP faced a humiliating defeat by winning only 3 seats out of 70 seats. Aam Admi Party secured a win by winning 67 seats out of 70 seats. Aam Admi Party's win is being celebrated in Pakistan more than it is being celebrated, I don't understand why Pakistani people are so happy about corruption being removed from India? Anyway I don't want to discuss that in this post.

What I want to discuss in this post is reason of BJP's humiliating defeat. I have observed over last 9 months of Modi's rule is that media is trying to project that BJP and India is created by Narender Modi and BJP exist because of Narender Modi. I don't know if it is being done on instruction of Narender Modi or at instruction of opponents of BJP. All congress leaders who used to say that they are not opposed to BJP but opposed to Narender Modi are now saying that they support Narender Modi and opposes BJP. These kinds of statements are taken to heart by Narender Modi and he has started thinking that BJP exist because of him and he started neglecting BJP workers and other BJP leaders.

The truth is other way around. Narender Modi is because of BJP and BJP is not because of Narender Modi. Narender Modi was made Prime Minister because of over one crore party workers of the BJP who have a common ideology, a common belief in values. Modi was chosen a leader because he strongly identified with common ideology of the BJP party.

Now Narender Modi  is behaving in high headed manner and neglected Delhi's local party workers and local leaders in assembly polls. Popular leaders like Harshverdhan were marginalized and an external person Kiran Bedi was projected as CM candidate. This thing did not get well with BJP workers and BJP worker felt insulted and demoralized. Narender Modi thought that he is the one who is winning election for BJP and he can put anybody as CM and people will vote for him. Narender Modi repeated same mistake which was done by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Atal Bihari Vajpayee in height of his arrogance removed Kalyan Singh the popular CM of Uttar Pradesh and replaced him with his sycophant Lalji Tandon because he think that people will accept whoever Vajpayee will put. Now you know that BJP have not come to power for 20 years in UP.

I hope that after this humiliating defeat Narender Modi will get back to scenes and realize his mistake instead of blaming others. Today what I am seeing that on facebook people gone ahead to the extent of blaming public of Delhi and not ready to talk about real reason of BJP's defeat that is arrogance of Narender Modi.

Female foeticide and Govenment advertisement for promoting abortion

Now a day I am seeing a new advertisement by government of India which is promoting people to get their unborn child aborted in government recognized health centers. This advertisement is promoting killing of unborn babies in name of population control.  If killing can be considered an acceptable way of controlling population then government should allow and promote killing of non performing population of India. Government should allow killing of old and sick people to remove liability of the nation rather than killing unborn babies.

Today killing of unborn babies is allowed if it is done in first three months of pregnancy. It is not only allowed but being encouraged by government advertisement of abortion. By viewing this advertisement people think that they deserve a bravery medal for killing their unborn child. At the same time government is running another campaign to save unborn girl child from getting killed by their parents. These two campaigns don't go together. In one case you are saying that killing an unborn baby deserves a bravery medal and in another case you are saying that killing unborn girl child is crime and a person doing it should be hanged.

This is not something which I would expect from a prime minister like Narender Modi but problem is not only with Narender Modi or BJP. The problem lies with all parties, Arvind Kejriwal who have problem with each and everything which BJP does don't find anything wrong in the advertisement of abortion by Government of India. The journalists who keep crying about bad policies of Government are not saying anything against is but supporting it by airing this advertisement on their channel. The problem is with whole intelligentsia of India who think that killing their unborn babies should be allowed to remove a possible financial burden on them and at the same time their children should not be allowed to kill them when they become old and become a financial burden to their children.
